Biography Housewife (formerly Moscow Apartment) is the Canadian indie rock/pop project of critically acclaimed singer-songwriter, actor and writer Brighid Fry (they/she), a young queer artist who, at 21, is already a veteran of the Canadian music scene. Based in Toronto, Brighid Fry likes to describe Housewife as an unfolding project that includes her collaborators in the studio and on tour.

Working with producer and multi-instrumentalist Gabe Simon (Noah Kahan, Lana Del Rey, Dua Lipa), writer and producer Carrie K (PVRIS, The Regrettes), performer and producer Mikky Ekko (Rihanna, Vince Staples, Diplo), indie pop artist Young Summer and JUNO nominee Derek Hoffman Brighid’s songs pop with singalong hooks and top-notch production. Yet beneath it all, her self-awareness and lyrical poignancy shines just as brightly. Releasing music since she was 12 years old, Brighid’s style has evolved from her parents’ folk, indie rock and post punk influences, to her self-described early-teenaged emo phase, to this contemporary amalgamation of rock, pop, folk and lo-fi— all buoyed by her natural gift for melody.

Brighid is also an activist and champion of the environmental organizations Music Declares Emergency (she helped to Co-found the Canadian chapter) and Earth Percent. She starred in the Indie short musical “Polly and the Pockets'' and has had her music placed in numerous TV shows and films. Moscow Apartment underwent a name change to Housewife in April 2022 and later that same year went from a duo to Brighid's solo project. With millions of streams and choice placements on Editorial playlists, including several covers, previous releases were named “22 Albums You Need to Hear” by CBC, the top 25 EPs of 2020 (Exclaim) and 2022 (The Revue) and nominated for an Indies award (2021). Brighid has also won a Canadian Folk Music Award, a Toronto Independent Music Award, the Canadian Songwriting Competition and the Slaight Music It’s Your Shot award. In 2023, she was named one of Canada’s top 25 environmentalists under 25 by Starfish and a 30 Under 30 Youth Leader in Climate Action by Corporate Knights. Brighid was one of five 2023 winners of the prestigious SOCAN Foundation Awards for Young Canadian Songwriters, sponsored by SiriusXM and was in the top 10 of the 2024 CBC Music Searchlight Contest.

Brighid signed to a brand new U.S label the week before graduating from Rosedale School of the Arts in 2021 and through them released the 2022 Housewife EP “You’ll be Forgiven” which was chosen as one of the best EPs of the year by Indie Music connoisseurs The Revue who commended the “blissful, escapist dreamgaze” “lush intimacy” and “extremely thoughtful and insightful stories”. Brighid spent 2022 and 2023 writing and building her live show as a solo performer including opening for Rural Alberta Advantage, SoftCult, FanClub Wallet, Fucked UP as well as U.S tours supporting Paolo Nutini, Addison Grace and Born Without Bones. Housewife just returned to Canada after a first Europe and UK tour (supporting Lauran Hibberd) She has previously shared the stage with Serena Ryder, Broken Social Scene, Stars, The Beaches, Joel Plaskett, The Barenaked Ladies, July Talk, Sarah Harmer and Feist.

Housewife’s newest songs showcase Brighid integrating a lifetime of musical influences into an honest depiction of being a young person today — the grief and growth, the failures and friendships, existential crises and exuberant celebrations. The songs released since 2023 are products of Brighid’s journey back to writing as a solo artist after forming the duo in 2017. Recent releases have received high praise from Rolling Stone France, Ones To Watch, The Vinyl District, Under the Radar, Slate Culture GabFest and others. 2023’s King of Wands is a part of Earth Percent’s “Earth as my Co–writer” program and spent several weeks on CBC’s Top 20. Fuck Around Phase landed on the prestigious year end list by James Gunn and Exclaim Magazine’s list of top Canadian songs of 2023. Housewife’s newest release “Life of the Party” is out on Submarine Cat and getting positive press and spins on CBC and BBC Radio 1.
